“Hi class!
What I find interesting about the Great Wall of China is the distance of the actual wall. It states 20,000 Kilometers which is equivalent to 12427.424 miles!! Another astonishing fact I find interesting is the Great Wall of China is the only hand made structure that can be seen from the MOON!! Above Earth you can see oceans, but from the moon you can see an architect piece.
The purpose of the wall is to stop other countries from invading their countries including walls, horse tracks, and towers. China uses it to block aggression from other countries. The Great Wall of China also preserves their culture; touching base as to what we have been learning a few weeks ago about cultures and traditions.
Another example of a modern wall is the Berlin Wall, Germany – This wall was built much later than the previous ones, but just as much famous. Construction began in 1961, at the peak of the cold war. It was built in the middle of Berlin by East Germany in order to stop East Berliners to escape to the west. It was finally taken down with the fall of the Soviet Union in 1989. Remnants can still be found today (10 Most Famous Walls in the World, 2013).
The Berlin Wall is similar to the Great Wall of China in regards to barricading invading intruders and possible escapes.”
